Greenwich Summer: Where the SUN means RUN

Posted on May 16, 2016

There’s nothing quite like running in the sun to make you feel GOOD. Here in the UK though, summer doesn’t always send us sunshine. So, when the glorious sun does make an appearance, we need to be ready to take advantage.

So now that’s settled, the real question is: how do we best combine fashion and fitness? Well ladies, we’re offering the latest active-wear essentials for summer 2016. You won’t want to miss them:

The Right Clothing: Wake-Up. Flawless.

FROM LEFT: Topshop at OUTFIT Ivy Park logo bodysuit (£30) ; Topshop at OUTFIT Logo mesh insert bra (£20), Soft backless sleeveless hoodie (£28), and shorts (£16)

Need we say more? Beyoncé’s new athletic fashion line ‘Ivy Park’ is HOT. What wouldn’t we wear from this clothing line? @Weareivypark, and we forever want to BE Ivy Park. From the clothing, footwear and accessories, you can get your sweat on in virtually every piece from this line. The three-piece fashion outfit shown above is one of our personal favourite pieces.

The Right Motivation:

FROM LEFT: Maplin ProSound GO SP300 Water Resistant Sports Earphones (£14.99) ; Maplin Philips SHQ1300 ActionFit Sports In-Earphones (£19.99)

How else will you listen to Beyoncé’s beats and get pumped up without the proper gear? Cue these ready-for-action headphones. The Philips SHQ1300 ActionFit Sports In-Earphones (£19.99) are our go-to as they have a Semi-closed acoustic design, which allows you to be aware of your surroundings when exercising (great for evening runs). This pair, as well as the ProSound GO SP300 Water Resistant Sports Earphones (£14.99) provide high-quality audio that is sweat and water resistant, meaning they’re great for extended workouts. Both sets shown above are also resistant to grime and come in different ear-bud sizes, meaning they’re far less prone to slipping out of your ears – a necessity for any run.

The Right Trainers:

FROM LEFT: JDSports Nike Free Run Flyknit Ladies (£105) ; JDSports Nike Free Run Womens (£90)

How can you keep the pace without proper trainers? Combine fashion and fitness with the Nike Free Run Flyknit Ladies trainers from JDSports at Greenwich. These trainers are ‘lighter than light’ and are extremely breathable, giving you the ‘coolest’ run even in the warmest weather. Nike also states that the trainers have Auxetic foam which expands when stretched, meaning ultimate comfort as the pressure is spread out more evenly with every step you take. If you’re looking for something a bit cheaper, try the ladies basic Nike Free Run trainers which are £15 less.

The Right...Smell? (Running Socks):

FROM LEFT: Sports Direct Karrimor Ladies Running Sock (2-pack currently on for £4.50).

Summer heat makes for smelly feet. Try these moisture-wicking socks, which are soft with a padded toe and heel and have an ergonomic fit. They also come complete with a Fresh Guard odour neutraliser, so your feet stay cooler and fresher, for longer. A summer must have – and currently on sale at Sports Direct, Greenwich Shopping Park.

#SeriouslySummer Post Work-Out Smoothie:

Celebrate your efforts with a fresh, vitamin-packed smoothie from Costa Coffee at Greenwich. Made with real fruit and freshly blended by your barista, all of the new #SeriouslySummer smoothies are made with a wide range of ingredients, letting you pick for both flavour and potential health-benefits. Our personal favourite is the Green SuperDay Smoothie, which is packed with fresh melon, kiwi and apple.

What a delicious way to get 1 of your 5 a day!
